Teacher models recite/clap rhythm.
Display the One, Two, Three Poster.
Teacher and students RASP poem.
Recite/clap one line of the poem at a time. The students echo your clapping and reciting. Repeat 2-3 times.
Use the RASP Strategy to have students practice clapping the rhythm and reciting the words and phrases of the poem One, Two, Three.
Minimal Pair Practice
Say, “I’m going to say a word. Point to Bertha if the word begins with the same sound as the beginning sound of Bertha. Point to Vertha if the word begins with the same sound as the beginning sound of Vertha. Let’s try it.”
Say, “Valerie. My friend’s name is Valerie. Valerie.” Students point to Vertha. Correct errors.
Say, “Benny. Benny visited me. Benny.” Students point to Bertha. Correct errors.
Intonation Practice
Use the Backward Buildup Strategy to have students practice pronouncing each sentence.
